Protesters planning "Dump Trump" demonstration outside candidate's Sarasota rally

No Donald Trump rally would be complete without a healthy contingent of protesters and the candidate's Sarasota event is no exception.

The liberal group Answer Suncoast is teaming up with UNO: United Nations, a newly formed immigrant rights organization, to stage a protest outside Trump's Saturday event at Robarts Arena.

UNO has experience demonstrating against Trump; the organization formed earlier this year to protest the candidate's statements about Mexican immigrants and held a "Dump Trump" rally in Bradenton that attracted a few hundred people. This latest protest is being dubbed the "Sarasota Unites for Immigrants and Refugees Rally."

Here is their announcement:

“DUMP TRUMP! SARASOTA UNITES FOR IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES” RALLY AT ROBART’S ARENA - SARASOTA, FL (3000 Ringling Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34237)

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is bringing his reactionary message of hate and discrimination to Sarasota. Trump has called Mexican immigrants “rapists” and “drug dealers,” suggested that Muslim citizens should be forced to register in a national database, proposed racist barriers to the asylum process for Syrian refugees, and falsely claimed that Blacks kill 81% of white homicide victims.

On Saturday, November 28, from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm, Answer Coalition, UNO: United Nations, and others will hold a rally to defend the rights of immigrants, refugees, and others marginalized groups that Trump is targeting.

“UNO: United Nations Organization will be supporting the protest this Saturday because we believe in empowering people from all cultures, giving a voice to those in need, and protecting human rights. We will stand side by side next to our brothers and sisters to show our full support,” said Junion Salazar, Executive Director of UNO.

The peaceful rally will spread a message of unity and human rights with signs, chants and banners. Faith groups, civil and human rights organizations, and others have been invited to speak. Together we will stand up to Donald Trump whose lies about Latin American immigrants and Middle Eastern refugees make life harder and less safe for millions of people.

“Donald Trump needs to be taken seriously when he threatens vulnerable communities and our loved ones,” said Answer Coordinator Bryan Ellis. “Trump is using lies to take advantage of people’s fear and spreading shocking racism for media attention. He’s leading many people into a very unjust and dangerous mindset.”
